A recent photo shoot for Absolute Marketing Communications for the Women in Business organisation in Northern Ireland. We ended up getting a fine sunny day for this shot and took advantage of the beautiful skies.

Corporate Fashion

I recently completed a corporate fashion piece for Absolute Marketing Communications. I was asked to photograph five leading businesswomen in Northern Ireland at various locations in Belfast. The five women selected were Phyllis Agnew, Senior Partner at Tughans, Tracey Schofield, Partner at Tughans, Elaine Oliver, Relationship Office at Ulster Bank Private, Nicky Petrie, Director at Pagoda Public Relations and Brenda Buckley, Publisher at Business Eye.

Tughans: Visual Identity

I recently worked with Tughans Solicitors and their in-house design team to create a new visual Identity for their re-brand. I was pleased when they decided to go for something a little more edgy and I’m delighted with the results. Have a look below at some of the shots:

The Pianist

I had the privilege to hear Sara-Jane Brown play a long time ago at a friend’s wedding two years ago. I remember distinctly going up to her and saying “I have never heard piano being played like that – EVER!” Like all of the guests that day I was mesmerised by her gift. Imagine my delight a few weeks back when a received a call from Sara-Jane asking me to shoot her portfolio to help promote her new business and persona in different ways.

After a long telephone conversation I decided that we would shoot three separate personas for her website and promotional materials. Corporate Events, Weddings and finally teaching. I shot her profile at home and tied it in with a lesson she was giving in order to kill two birds with one stone. I joked about having the opportunity to shoot her out in a field with a floral dress and a white piano for the wedding section. Funnily enough Sara-Jane knew the owner of AA Music on the Lecky Road and he just happened to have a white piano sitting in his field out back. Some call it luck, I call it contacts!

The final shoot was at Ten Square. It was between Ten Square and the Merchant Hotel but after chatting to Lucy Anderson (Ten Square’s sales and marketing manager) I made my mind up very quickly! They had a function that evening but gave us full use of their rooms and even helped us move around furniture for the best shot. Thanks again to Lucy and her team for their support.

Swamp Corporate Shoot

Had a photoshoot today with Graham Byrne chief officer at Swamp (Southern Waste Management Partnership). Graham was busy and was running in and out of a meeting in order to get his shots so had to move swiftly on this one. He’s a real gent and was very patient as I angled for the best shot.

The corridor was an eye catching piece in itself but I wanted to bring Graham out of the scene with some cleverly placed creative lighting. My Key light was camera left at a height and then I incorporated some light trickery to change the scene and give the corridor a little atmosphere. Every location and every subject is a challenge in some way shape or form but don’t let this worry you. Just look at your composition from a creative angle and let the strobes do the talking!

Marty from Scattered Images has completed the band shoot video and is rendering as I type this so I will post as soon as it’s ready. Unfortunately we were pushed for time so I couldn’t run a proper tutorial so its really just a fly on the wall perspective but I promise the next one will be choc full of info for you budding strobists!

Corporate Shoot: Plan and Prosper

I went down today to the offices of Plan and Prosper to shoot the Director Michael Mulholland and his associate Graeme Waring at their offices in Moira. The focus was business portraits so I took the guys outside to use the evening sun and two speedlights to create the look I was going for. The company specialises in helping individuals obtain finance for large purchases. They were Est. in 1989 and are well respected in their field. The guys were great and although a little apprehensive at first (cameras do that!) they got settled into the shoot and I was able to get some great portraits.

More on the technique later as I will update. Band shoot tomorrow so expect gritty scenes and lots of moody, angry teenagers (joking guys!). Black Bear Saloon get their new band shots tomorrow and I’ll have Marty from Scattered Images by my side at all times to film a tutorial on this particular type of shoot and pitfalls.
